INTRODUCTORY FLORAL DESIGN
Have you ever wanted to learn how to make professional looking flower designs for your own home?  This class will cover the basics of design and types of arrangements, buying flowers, conditioning flowers, tools and materials and how to get started.  Participants will make 2 arrangements per class to take home.  All flowers will be provided. Please bring floral knife and scissors and a box to transport your arrangements.

* Donna Doyle is a long-time resident of Philipstown and has a local floral business.  She holds a Certificate in Floral Design from The New York Botanical Garden.  As a member of the Philipstown Garden Club, she has conducted floral design demonstrations for the community.
 
MAH JONGG OPEN PLAY        
Do you enjoy playing Mah Jongg but have no one to play with?  Come on down to the VFW Hall and test your skills.  New players welcome!

TRADITIONAL ALBUM MAKING
You loved that picture when you took it!  Don’t just leave it on your memory card or in a shoe box.    Learn how to make photo safe album using a quick and easy method.  In this class you will crop (trim), decorate and journal to complete one album.Just bring 40-60 photos that you would like to use.  The 8x8 album and materials to complete the album are included in the fee.  Please  register by Feb 28.

EXERCISE & MOVEMENT

ADULT BALLET
Looking to stretch, tone and give your body the cardio it needs, all while enjoying the graceful beauty of ballet? This hour and a half class is for beginners and experienced alike. Barre and floor exercises are geared toward toning long, graceful muscles and improving musicality. We work carefully to utilize core muscle groups, implementing Pilates and classical ballet methodology, to improve overall strength, endurance and fluidity of movement.

ADULT FITNESS INTERMEDIATE HIKERS
Looking for more than an easy hike but not quite ready for the Fitness Challenge?  Put on your hiking boots and join HHLT interpretive naturalist and avid hiker Cathy Bakker for six different mid level fitness excursions that will get your legs ready for summer.  Moderately paced hikes will range from 1.5 – 2.0 hours in length.  Meet at the trailhead for each week’s hike (specific locations will be provided before the session). Program offered in partnership with the Hudson Highlands Land Trust.

ADULT FITNESS HIKE CHALLENGE
Kick it up a notch this Spring with challenging, brisk paced hikes along some of the area’s most rigorous trails.  Join HHLT interpretive naturalist and seasoned hiker Cathy Bakker for six different challenging adventures.  Pack a snack for a quick mid-hike break.  Meet at the trailhead for each week’s hike (specific locations will be provided before each session).  Length of hikes will vary based on the location and trail conditions. Program offered in partnership with the Hudson Highlands Land Trust.

FITNESS WALKERS
Get out of the house and enjoy nature while getting in shape.  An easy hike on local trails to get you up and moving.  This class is offered in conjunction with the Hudson Highlands Land Trust. First hike will meet at Rec, remaining hikes will meet at trailhead for each week’s hike (specific locations will be provided before the first session).

PILATES
Pilates improves flexibility, agility and economy of motion.  It teaches body awareness, good posture and easy, graceful movement. Pilates elongates and strengthens, developing muscle elasticity and joint mobility. Walk-ins are welcome at a $14 fee per class if minimum registration is met to run the class.

TAI CHI CHIH                          
A series of 19 simple movements and one pose that is relaxing and easy to learn. The circular movements promote health in every part of the body. The movements are gentle and easily done by anyone, regardless of age or physical condition.

TOTAL BODY SCULPTING
This 1 hour class works all muscle groups, both by increasing strength and endurance. All fitness levels are welcome, and no previous experience is necessary. The class is choreographed to music, and the instructor will coach and correct throughout the class to ensure proper technique and form. Walk-ins are welcome at a $14 fee per class if minimum registration is met to run the class.

YAMUNA BODY ROLLING
This is work to save your body!  This class helps you to feel better, move better, gain strength, eliminate pain and stress.  You will go through routines using a specially designed ball to elongate muscles, release the spine, open joints and improve alignment, deepening your breathing and increasing your relaxation response.  It prevents and heals injuries. Walk-ins are welcome at a $14 fee per class if minimum registration is met to run the class.

YOGA with KATHY BARNES
What separates yoga from “exercising” is the focus on integrating the body and mind.  Regular practice develops heightened physical and mental awareness, brings about beneficial changes to our bodies and helps create a sense of well being.  It allows us to shift away from unhealthy patterns and habits and helps to prevent future problems as well. Walk-ins are welcome at a $12 fee per class if minimum registration is met to run the class. 

Kathy’s class emphasizes proper alignment of the body, the building of strength and flexibility of the muscles and joints, and the integration of the healing powers of the breath.  Greatly influenced by the teachings of BKS Iyengar, Kathy has studied various forms of yoga for over twenty years.

This 90-minute class offers students of all levels clear and lighthearted instruction in breath, alignment and body awareness.  The goal is to offer each participant better balance, flexibility, strength, concentration, and reduced stress. Practicing yoga lengthens the spine, eases long held bodily tension, quiets the mind and expands the heart. Age-defying, yoga can keep us tall, and help us to maintain flexibility and balance in our lives, on and off the mat. Cat Guthrie has been a student of yoga for over twelve years and continues to explore many disciplines, including Anusara, Body-Mind Centering, Sivananda, and Phoenix Rising Yoga Therapy. Cat loves to incorporate her varied studies into her classes, offering motivation and challenge, inspiration and nurturing.
